Mauritius Operation but position is Cape Town Based
**THIS POSITION IS SUITED TO AN ACCOUNTANT WITH RETAIL/FMCG EXPERIENCE**
Our client is a private investment group with a diverse portfolio of commercial properties and retail assets, including a well-established grocery store based in Mauritius. They are seeking an experienced Retail Accountant to manage the financials for this overseas operation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insightful reporting. You will be responsible for the full accounting function for the Mauritius-based retail store (remotely, from the Cape Town Head Office), overseeing all financial reporting, stock and cash flow management, and monthly reconciliations while ensuring compliance with international financial laws, particularly Mauritian accounting and tax regulations. You will also analyse retail performance metrics, identify trends and provide strategic insights to management, liaise with local (Mauritian) operational staff and external service providers (accountants, auditors, banks) and assist in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
Job Requirements
A relevant Financial Degree or Diploma (e.g., BCom Accounting, Financial Management).
At least 3-5 years of accounting experience in a retail environment – grocery or FMCG preferred.
Solid understanding of retail operations, including POS, stock control, and supplier reconciliations.
Experience with international accounting standards, and preferably knowledge of Mauritian financial compliance.
Proficient in Excel and accounting software
A self-starter who can work independently and across time zones.
